The Éva Fahidi Award

– Honouring compassion, compassion and courage –

She gave hundreds of lectures at schools, universities, and community events in Hungary and Germany. She appeared in dance performances, wrote books, and consistently advocated in interviews and speeches that acceptance of diversity and respect for human dignity are fundamental values on which to build the future.

The message of all her speeches, interviews, and public appearances was that people must eliminate their hatred toward other people or groups of people. She was convinced that this would work if we got used to being different as children and learned to accept this difference. We must get used to not making value distinctions between people based on their origin, religion, skin color, or any other characteristics that are beyond their control.

Éva not only said this, she also lived by what she believed in.

By founding the Éva Fahidi Award, we want to support this important message. The aim of the award is to recognize the work and efforts that the outstanding individuals who receive the award – regardless of their profession – have done and continue to do to inspire and support the younger generation in rejecting exclusion and hatred and building an inclusive, compassionate, and caring society.

Each year, the award is given to the person who, according to the majority vote of the committee entrusted with the decision, has done the most to achieve the above-mentioned goal.

Both individuals and organizations can submit nominations for the award, and it can be given to anyone living in any country who meets the nomination criteria.

The award ceremony takes place every year on October 22, Éva Fahidi's birthday, preferably in Hungary.

The award is a small replica of Anikó Weiss's sculpture, which depicts Éva and Anikó Fahidi imprisoned in a forced labor camp, expressing their desire for freedom and hope even under the most difficult circumstances. The award winner may also receive financial support based on the decision of the committee.

The founders of the award are Ádám Fischer and Andor Andrási.
